Dr. Katherine McGilton

RN, PhD, FAAN

QUILT Network Principal Investigator and Toronto Site Lead, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – University Health Network

Katherine S. McGilton is a Senior Scientist at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute-University Health Network and a Professor at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. She has research funding as the principal investigator from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Alzheimer Society of Canada, and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. She is currently the co-lead of the Quality of Life Theme for the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegenerative Diseases in Aging (CCNA).

The focus of her work is on enhancing the care of the older adults, especially those with dementia, through the development and application of interventions, outcome measures and models of care in practice. She also developed a model of care for rehabilitating complex patients post-hip fracture surgery, targeting patients with cognitive impairment that was subsequently evaluated in an investigator-initiated, multi-site clinical trial.

Dr. Veronique Boscart

RN, PhD

QUILT Network Waterloo Site Lead, Conestoga College

Dr. Veronique Boscart has extensive gerontological experience, including working as a nurse clinician, educator, manager and researcher in an international setting. Her research interests range from the substantive area of evidence-based care in gerontology and best practices in research methods with older adults to the development of gerontological education for health care professionals and care delivery models for residential care settings.

Veronique is the Executive Dean of Health and Life Sciences and Director of the Schlegel Centre for Advancing Seniors Care at Conestoga College, and the chair holder of the CIHR/ Schlegel Industrial Research Chair for Colleges in Senior Care – funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). She is also the President of the Canadian Association on Gerontology, Past President (2017-2019) for the Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association, and a Section Editor for the Canadian Journal on Aging since 2014.

Dr. Peter Tanuseputro

MHSc, MD, CCFP, FRCPC

QUILT Network Ottawa Site Lead, Bruyère Research Institute

Peter completed training as a Public Health and Preventive Medicine physician and as a Family Physician at the University of Toronto. He is an Investigator at the Bruyère Research Institute, an Associate Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and Assistant Professor in the Division of Palliative Care at the University of Ottawa. His research mainly uses linked routinely-collected data at ICES to develop population perspectives on aging and end of life in Ontario. Peter also practices family medicine in the community, including performing home visits for his dying patients.

Dr. Heidi Sveistrup

QUILT Network Principal Investigator, Bruyère Research Institute

Heidi Sveistrup is an active investigator at the Bruyère Research Institute whose research focus is in stroke rehabilitation and the use of technologies to support wellness, engagement and long life. She is also the academic lead for the Bruyère Centre for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI).

Heidi holds her academic position as a full professor in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. Heidi served as Vice-Dean, Research and Graduate Studies for the Faculty of Health Sciences for eight years. She is a member of the University of Ottawa’s Brain and Mind Research Institute.

In the community, Heidi is the Vice-Chair of the Champlain Regional Stroke Network (CRSN) steering committee, Chair of the CRSN education committee and a member of the Veterans Ombudsman advisory committee.
